With pallet racks, large and durable “pallets” are used to store and carry extremely heavy loads.  A wide array of pallet racking systems can be purchased for every type of material. Pallet racks can be used to store any heavy duty equipment, like motorbikes. They come in multiple rows and require a forklift truck to place the loaded pallets into the racks. You can usually find pallet rack systems in warehouses, manufacturing facilities, and other large-scale storage areas.

The basic form of pallet racking system used today is selective pallet racking. Selective pallet racking is available in a clip-in or bolt-together arrangement. Clip-in pallet racks, also called roll formed racks, hold pallets by means of horizontal load beams that are secured in place through mounting “clip-ins”. Roll formed racks allow easy adjusting of shelves to different heights to contain different load sizes. This is often employed by storage facilities that house loads of varying shapes and sizes.

Also known as roll formed racks, bolt-together or structural pallet racks can carry more weight unlike clip-in pallet racks. As opposed to being attached to mounting clips, the horizontal load beams are fixed in place with bolts. Structural selective racks can be easily built into the warehouse’s structure, so that their columns can also be used to support the warehouse’s roof instead of I-beams. These structures are referred to as rack supported buildings.

A very cramped alley uses smaller pallet racking systems to maximize the available space used in a storage facility. It operates with the help of a wire-guided or rail-guided reach truck. A wire-guided reach truck is composed of wires embedded in the concrete floor to function as tracks for the reach truck. Rail-guided systems use angled iron which is screwed along the length of each rack row to guide the truck. Selective pallet racks offer easy access to heavy products to allow convenient retrieval, restocking, and inventory count.

Load beams, upright frames, and pallet supports are some of the major parts of a selective racking system. Load beams are where the equipment is placed before being contained in racks. The load beams are attached to the upright frames, which are secured into place by pallet supports.

Organizations may obtain either new or used pallet racking systems to hold their equipment. Other types of pallet racks are also available to accommodate the various items they store. Such characteristics such as storage density, floor space taken up, access to inventory, and the size and weight of the load are taken into consideration.
