Eck en Wiel, Netherlands 23 January 2012 – Faber Halbertsma Group, Europe’s biggest pallet producer and second largest pallet pooling company, has announced the acquisition of PAKi Logistics, the market leader in the pooling of standardised load carriers. Through this acquisition, the family business, based in Eck en Wiel in the Netherlands, strengthens its position in the European market. The acquisition also marks a major milestone in the international growth ambitions of FHG.
PAKi Logistics, based in Ennepetal, Germany, has for over 35 years been organising – along with more than a hundred specialists, 10,000 pooling stations and more than two million pallets, boxes and plastic load carriers – logistic services in the whole of Europe. Using the latest web-based technology, PAKi Logistics ensures that its customers in industry, trade and transport easily have the right quality load carrier quickly available in the required quantity at the right time in the right location. The company has a growing annual turnover, which in 2011 was around 40 million Euros.
Faber Halbertsma Group re-branded FHG
Faber Halbertsma Group completed the acquisition under a new name, FHG, covering all subsidiaries of the group. As a result, PAKi Logistics will be re-branded FHG PAKi. The re-branding of the whole group will reinforce FHG’s market position as a full-line supplier. FHG sells, hires, repairs and trades pallets and can, depending on the supply chain in which a customer operates, offer a full combination of products and services. In future, all subsidiaries will be recognised by the new FHG logo.
Companies complement each other
Ingrid Faber, CEO of FHG, said: “The takeover of PAKi Logistics is a major step forward in our ambitious growth strategy of further expanding and strengthening our European network. The pooling activities and the expanded network of PAKi Logistics in the European market are a complementary addition to the international pooling activities of FHG. It allows us to offer our full-line services on a wider scale.”
Christian Kühnhold, CEO of PAKi Logistics, said: “We are delighted that the future of PAKi Logistics is secured long-term. This acquisition by FHG sees the retention of the current management of PAKi Logistics, and allows us to offer our services to a substantially wider market. As our products and services are complementary to those offered by FHG, the enlarged group will be in a stronger position going forward.”
Following the acquisition, Christian Kühnhold will immediately join the management team of FHG.
FHG is Europe’s largest pallet producer and second largest pallet pooling company. The family business, founded in 1933, comprises 17 subsidiaries operating in the Netherlands, Germany, Belgium, France and the UK that produce, hire, repair and trade pallets. The nine production companies within FHG annually make 18 million wooden pallets, where care for the environment is central. The production of industrial packaging and paper pallets are among the services offered by the group. The pallet rental companies FHG IPP Logipal and FHG PRS Return System serve, through an extensive network of depots and call centres, customers primarily in the electronics, FMCG, recycling and chemical sectors. FHG has, following the acquisition of PAKi Logistics, an annual turnover of 300 million Euros and more than 800 employees. The headquarters of the company is based in Eck en Wiel, the Netherlands.
