For this introductory article, we’re focusing on creative DIY projects to repurpose, reuse and reinvent crates and pallets into useful home goods; this trend is called Pallet-Craft. First up, is this pallet bed made by attaching 2 pallets and mounting them on wheels for easy moving. You can also use an old door that has been sanded down and placed horizontally as a headboard. This should fit a twin-sized mattress and could be used as a day bed.
A pallet headboard is another idea to add a rustic touch to a bedroom. They can be painted and customized to fit your home décor. They double as wall art, but remember to use flush mount hangers, how ingenious!
If you’re interested in gardening and wood work, here’s a project for you. An outdoor table made from shipping crates and scrap wood with a built-in planter. Or if you have limited space and still want to show off your green thumb, opt for a pallet garden. A weekend project with a great pay off!

Forget about expensive shelving, cut pallets in half and hang them on your wall. Fill them with mementos, frames and artwork then wait for the flurry of compliments from your friends and family.
A juxtaposition of stacked crates makes for an appealing bookshelf with a rustic feel. Nail them together as high or wide as you like for a custom built unit.
An easy way to add that DIY style to your home is making a pallet coffee table. A trip to the hardware store to purchase a set of four caster wheels and some screws is all it can take. It’s up to you if you want to add a custom glass top, but a large tray or several small ones will also work to set drinks and décor on.
Most pallets and crates are given away for free at grocery or home improvement stores which make these projects very affordable, just be sure to ask before you grab them. Make sure and use only untreated lumber, the kind that hasn’t been coated with pesticides and fungicides and take the necessary precautions to clean it.
