Donny Gallant should be applauded for trying to help his neighbors. He is providing a free service to help heat their homes. Unfortunately, he’s using wood pallets to do it. Many wood pallets are contaminated with toxic chemicals. This makes them a poor choice for home heating as the smoke can put toxic waste into the air inside a home.
The problem Donny is trying to solve also points up another wood pallet issue. He is giving them away because “they’d be going to the landfill otherwise.” Wood pallet shippers and manufacturers will tell you the wood pallets get recycled. Obviously, that’s not true. Donny sounds like a good guy. He’s trying to help his neighbors and clean up a mess. Unfortunately, wood pallets aren’t safe for home heating. Besides, it’s not his mess to clean up.
