A cloud of black smoke which covered south Huntsville for a time before lunch came from a large fire at a pallet company in the Lacey's Spring area of northeast Morgan County.

The fire at Gibson's Wood Products broke out after 11 a.m. at a plant off U.S. Highway 231 just south of the Whitesburg Bridge.

Units from several Morgan County departments and a truck from Huntsville Fire Department's Station Seven fought the blaze which reportedly consumed thousands of wooden and plastic pallets.
