An essential part of any garden is the compost bin. The film shows the method of constructing such a bin entirely of recuperated, untreated pallet wood. The design is unique in that the slats comprising the four sides are slid into place and more importantly may be easily removed for access when emptying.
For the bin in the film: the frame is made of four legs 800 mm long held in position with 8 horizontal side bars (6 x 800 mm x 80 mm x 22 mm, 2 x 900 mm x 22 mm) the longer side bars are on the two top opposite sidewalls. A vertical retaining piece of wood is screwed onto each side bar / leg assembly producing the gap into which the thinner side slats can be slid and retained.
As the wood is untreated I select the wood for the slats to be about 3 - 4 mm thinner than the gap into which they will slide (this allows for swelling when wet). The wood for the legs is 70 mm x 30 mm in section. Once again, ensure on completion that there exists a gap of at least 10 mm between the topmost side slat and the top sidebar to allow for swelling.
The lid is made to fit the assembled bin and the holes for the hinge pins are drilled once the lid is in position. I used roofing felt to cover the lid but any heavy duty tarpaulin will do.
This compost bin will form an integral part of the dry toilet system, which I will be uploading shortly.

Pour le composteur dans le film: la trame est faite de quatre pieds 800 mm de long maintenu en position avec 8 barres latérales horizontales (6 x 800 mm x 80 mm x 22 mm, 2 x 900 mm x 22 mm) les barres latérales de la plus grande longueur sont en haut des deux parois latérales opposées. Un retenue vertical de bois est vissé sur chaque côté bar / jambe de montage produisant le fossé dans lequel les lattes latérales plus minces peuvent être glissées et maintenues en place.
Comme le bois est non traité, je choisir le bois pour les lattes à environ 3 - 4 mm plus minces que le fossé dans lequel ils vont être glisser (cela permet un gonflement lorsqu'il est mouillé). Le bois pour les jambes est de 70 mm x 30 mm de section. Une fois de plus, veiller qu'il existe un écart d'au moins 10 mm entre la latte latérale supérieure et la barre latérale supérieure pour permettre le gonflement.
Le couvercle est faite pour s'adapter au composteur assemblé et les trous pour les gonds sont percés une fois le couvercle est en position. J'ai utilisé papier goudronné pour recouvrir le couvercle, mais une bâche robuste fera l'affaire.
